What is it used for?
Quetiapine is a prescription antipsychotic medicine used mainly to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It may also be used with other medicines for certain depressive symptoms, only when prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It helps balance chemical signals in the brain, particularly dopamine and serotonin. This can help reduce hallucinations, disturbed thoughts, severe mood changes and related symptoms.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet with water and do not stop it suddenly without medical advice. Avoid alcohol and driving or operating machinery if it causes sleepiness or dizziness.

Common side effects
Sleepiness, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, constipation, increased appetite, weight gain and tiredness.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision. Tell the doctor about diabetes, heart disease, low blood pressure, seizures, liver problems or a history of stroke. Seek medical help for severe muscle stiffness, high fever, fainting, uncontrolled movements or thoughts of self-harm. Older adults with dementia-related psychosis may have an increased risk of serious complications with this medicine.
