What is it used for?
Racecadotril 100 is used to help treat acute diarrhoea in adults, along with oral rehydration fluids. It helps reduce excessive loss of water and salts from the intestines.

How does it work?
It reduces excessive secretion of water and electrolytes into the intestine, helping to lessen loose motions. It does not replace the need for oral rehydration.

How to take/use it
Take by mouth exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Continue drinking oral rehydration solution and other recommended fluids. Do not use it as a replacement for rehydration treatment or for longer than advised.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, constipation and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Seek medical advice if diarrhoea is severe, lasts more than a short period, or is associated with blood in the stool, fever or signs of dehydration. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Stop it and seek urgent help if swelling of the face, lips or tongue, breathing difficulty, or a severe skin reaction occurs. People taking ACE inhibitor blood-pressure medicines should consult a doctor before use because of a possible increased risk of swelling reactions.
