What is it used for?
Used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), especially when one medicine alone is not enough to control it.

How does it work?
Ramipril relaxes and widens blood vessels by reducing the effects of a substance that raises blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water, which also lowers blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow with water. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Follow the prescribed monitoring and blood-test schedule.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, tiredness, dry cough, nausea, increased urination and low blood pressure. Changes in body salts, such as potassium or sodium, may also occur.

Precautions
Do not use during pregnancy; contact a doctor immediately if pregnancy occurs. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, dehydration, vomiting or diarrhoea, diabetes, gout, or previous swelling of the face, lips or throat with blood-pressure medicines. Avoid potassium supplements and potassium-containing salt substitutes unless advised. Tell the doctor about all medicines, especially lithium, painkillers such as ibuprofen, other blood-pressure medicines and diuretics. Seek urgent medical help for swelling of the face or throat, breathing difficulty, fainting or severe weakness.
