What is it used for?
Ranitidine injection is used to reduce excess stomach acid in conditions such as acidity, heartburn, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and stomach or duodenal ulcers. It is generally used when treatment by injection is needed and must be prescribed by a doctor.
How does it work?
It blocks histamine H2 receptors in the stomach, reducing the production of stomach acid.
How to take/use it
This medicine is given by injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or other trained healthcare professional. The dose and duration depend on the condition and kidney function; do not self-administer it.
Common side effects
Headache, nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, dizziness, and pain or irritation at the injection site may occur.
Precautions
Inform the doctor about kidney or liver disease, a history of acute porphyria, allergies, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Seek medical advice for persistent stomach pain, vomiting blood, black stools, difficulty swallowing, or unexplained weight loss. Ranitidine has been withdrawn or restricted in some countries because of concerns about a possible impurity; use it only when specifically prescribed and approved for use locally.
