What is it used for?
Ramipril 2.5 mg is mainly used to treat high blood pressure. It may also be prescribed for heart failure or to reduce the risk of certain heart and kidney problems, depending on the doctor's advice.

How does it work?
It belongs to a group of medicines called ACE inhibitors. It relaxes and widens blood vessels, helping lower blood pressure and reducing the workload on the heart.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with or without food, and swallow it with water. Take it at the same time each day if possible. Do not stop treatment or change the dose without medical advice.

Common side effects
Dry, persistent cough; dizziness or light-headedness, especially when starting treatment; headache; tiredness; nausea; and low blood pressure.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney disease, low blood pressure, dehydration, diabetes, or high potassium levels. Do not use during pregnancy; inform the doctor immediately if pregnancy occurs. Seek urgent medical help for swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing. Blood pressure, kidney function and potassium levels may need monitoring. Tell the doctor or pharmacist about other medicines, especially potassium supplements, potassium-containing salt substitutes, diuretics and regular painkillers such as ibuprofen.
