What is it used for?
Ramipril is mainly used to treat high blood pressure. It may also be prescribed for heart failure or to help reduce the risk of certain heart and blood vessel problems.

How does it work?
It belongs to a group of medicines called ACE inhibitors. It relaxes and widens blood vessels, helping lower blood pressure and making it easier for the heart to pump.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day. It can usually be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water and do not stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Dry cough, dizziness, headache, tiredness, nausea, and low blood pressure may occur. Dizziness can be more noticeable when starting treatment or after a dose change.

Precautions
Do not use during pregnancy unless specifically advised by a doctor. Tell the doctor about kidney problems, dehydration, low blood pressure, diabetes, or previous swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium levels may need monitoring. Seek urgent medical help for swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, or fainting. Tell the doctor or pharmacist about other medicines, especially potassium supplements, potassium-containing salt substitutes, diuretics, anti-inflammatory painkillers, or lithium.
