What is it used for?
Cephalexin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, ears, skin, urinary tract and respiratory system. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making their protective cell wall, which kills the bacteria and helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed by a doctor. Prepare the dry syrup exactly as directed on the label or by the pharmacist, shake well before each use, and measure each dose with an appropriate measuring device. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there has been a serious allergy to cephalexin or other cephalosporin antibiotics; tell the doctor about any penicillin allergy. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, severe rash or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Tell the doctor about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea.
