What is it used for?
Amoxycillin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, throat, chest, skin, urinary tract and other areas. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Swallow the capsule with water; it may usually be taken with or without food. Do not share leftover antibiotics with others.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and skin rash.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to amoxycillin, penicillin or related antibiotics. Tell the doctor about previous antibiotic allergies and kidney problems. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, or a severe skin rash. Contact a doctor for severe or persistent diarrhoea, especially if it contains blood.
