What is it used for?
Rosuvastatin is used to lower high cholesterol, especially LDL ("bad") cholesterol and triglycerides. It may also be prescribed to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people at increased cardiovascular risk.

How does it work?
It reduces cholesterol production in the liver and helps the liver remove more LDL cholesterol from the blood.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually once daily, with or without food. It may be taken at any time of day, but taking it at the same time each day can help. Continue diet and lifestyle measures recommended by the doctor. Do not stop it without medical advice.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, stomach pain, constipation and muscle pain may occur. Seek medical advice promptly for severe or unexplained muscle pain or weakness.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver disease, kidney disease, thyroid problems, heavy alcohol use or a history of muscle problems caused by cholesterol medicines. It should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Inform the doctor about all other medicines, as some can increase the risk of muscle-related side effects. Blood tests may be needed to check cholesterol and liver function.
