What is it used for?
Sacubitril + valsartan is used to treat chronic heart failure, especially heart failure with reduced pumping strength. It helps reduce the risk of worsening heart failure and hospitalisation when prescribed as part of appropriate treatment.

How does it work?
Sacubitril helps increase substances that relax blood vessels and reduce strain on the heart. Valsartan blocks the action of a hormone that can narrow blood vessels and cause salt and water retention.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with or without food, and swallow it with water. Take it regularly and do not stop treatment or change the dose without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Dizziness, low blood pressure, cough, increased potassium levels, and changes in kidney function. Seek urgent medical help for swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing.

Precautions
Do not use during pregnancy. Tell the doctor about kidney disease, liver disease, low blood pressure, high potassium levels, or a previous episode of angioedema. It must not be taken together with an ACE inhibitor; a suitable gap is required when changing between these medicines. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function and potassium may be needed. Avoid potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes unless advised by a doctor.
