What is it used for?
Used regularly for the long-term control of asthma and prevention of wheezing, breathlessness and other breathing symptoms. It may also be prescribed for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) when appropriate. It is not a rescue medicine for sudden breathing difficulty.

How does it work?
Salmeterol relaxes the airway muscles and keeps the airways open for longer. Fluticasone reduces inflammation and swelling in the airways.

How to take/use it
Use by inhalation exactly as prescribed, following the instructions for the specific inhaler device. Use it regularly, even when feeling well. Do not use it for sudden asthma attacks; keep the prescribed reliever inhaler available. Rinse the mouth and gargle with water after use, then spit it out.

Common side effects
Sore throat, hoarseness, mouth or throat irritation, oral thrush, headache, tremor, muscle cramps and awareness of the heartbeat. Rinsing the mouth after use can help reduce thrush and irritation.

Precautions
Do not stop regular treatment without medical advice. Seek urgent medical help if breathing suddenly worsens or the reliever inhaler is not helping. Tell the doctor about heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disorders, eye problems, osteoporosis, tuberculosis or other infections. Report persistent white patches or soreness in the mouth, severe palpitations or vision changes.
