What is it used for?
Prochlorperazine injection is used mainly to prevent or treat severe nausea and vomiting. It may also be used in some cases for vertigo or other conditions, only when prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It blocks dopamine signals in the brain that can trigger nausea and vomiting. It also has calming effects on the balance centre of the inner ear.

How to take/use it
This injection must be given by a doctor or nurse, usually in a hospital or clinic. The dose and route depend on the condition being treated; do not self-inject or use it without medical supervision.

Common side effects
Drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, dry mouth, constipation, restlessness, and a fall in blood pressure may occur. Muscle stiffness, tremors, or unusual movements can also occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, glaucoma, prostate or urinary problems, heart rhythm problems, liver disease, or previous reactions to antipsychotic medicines. Avoid alcohol and driving if drowsy or dizzy. Seek urgent medical help for severe muscle stiffness, high fever, confusion, uncontrolled movements, fainting, or difficulty breathing.
