What is it used for?
Sitagliptin is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It may be used alone or with other diabetes medicines. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
It blocks an enzyme called DPP-4, helping the body release more insulin after meals and reduce excess glucose production by the liver. This helps lower blood sugar levels.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with or without food. Take it regularly and do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. A dose adjustment may be needed in kidney disease. If taken with insulin or certain other diabetes medicines, follow medical advice about the risk of low blood sugar.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, stomach discomfort, and cold-like symptoms such as a stuffy or runny nose or sore throat. Low blood sugar may occur, especially when used with insulin or sulfonylureas.

Precautions
Inform the doctor about kidney disease, previous pancreatitis, or allergies to this medicine. Seek urgent medical help for severe or persistent stomach pain, swelling of the face or throat, breathing difficulty, severe skin reactions, or severe joint pain. Consult a doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
