What is it used for?
Tacrolimus 0.1% ointment is used to treat moderate to severe eczema (atopic dermatitis), especially when other topical treatments are not suitable or have not worked well.

How does it work?
It reduces overactivity of the immune response in the skin, helping to reduce inflammation, itching and eczema symptoms.

How to take/use it
Apply a thin layer to the affected skin exactly as prescribed. Wash hands before and after applying, unless the hands are being treated. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other mucous membranes. Do not cover the treated area with airtight or tight dressings unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Burning, stinging, warmth, redness or itching where the ointment is applied. These effects are often temporary.

Precautions
Avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight, tanning beds and ultraviolet treatment; use protective clothing and sunscreen as advised. Do not apply to infected skin unless directed by a doctor. Avoid using it in people with a weakened immune system unless prescribed by a specialist. Seek medical advice if skin infection develops or symptoms worsen. Use only for the prescribed period and as directed.
