What is it used for?
Telmisartan 20 mg is used to treat high blood pressure. It may also be prescribed to help reduce the risk of certain cardiovascular problems in some high-risk patients.

How does it work?
It blocks the action of a hormone called angiotensin II, which normally narrows blood vessels. This helps the blood vessels relax and lowers blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not stop taking it without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, diarrhoea, back pain and tiredness may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is kidney or liver disease, dehydration, or a history of high potassium levels. Avoid potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes unless advised by a doctor. Telmisartan should not be used during pregnancy; inform the doctor immediately if pregnancy occurs. Seek medical help for severe dizziness, fainting, swelling of the face or difficulty breathing.
