What is it used for?
Telmisartan 40 mg is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It may also be prescribed to help reduce the risk of certain cardiovascular problems in some high-risk adults.

How does it work?
It blocks the action of angiotensin II, a substance that tightens blood vessels. This helps the blood vessels relax and lowers blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet with water; it can generally be taken with or without food. Do not stop it without medical advice.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, diarrhoea, back pain, and tiredness may occur. Dizziness may be more likely when standing up quickly.

Precautions
Do not use during pregnancy, especially after the first trimester, unless specifically advised by a doctor. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, dehydration, low blood pressure, or high potassium levels. Avoid potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes unless advised. Seek medical help for swelling of the face or difficulty breathing. Regular blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium checks may be recommended.
