What is it used for?
Telmisartan is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It may also be prescribed to help reduce the risk of certain heart and blood vessel problems in some high-risk adults.

How does it work?
It blocks the action of angiotensin II, a substance that narrows blood vessels and raises blood pressure. This helps blood vessels relax and lowers blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water. Do not stop treatment or change the dose without medical advice.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, diarrhoea, back pain, and low blood pressure may occur.

Precautions
Do not use during pregnancy; inform a doctor immediately if pregnancy occurs. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, dehydration, or high potassium levels. Potassium supplements, potassium-containing salt substitutes, certain blood-pressure medicines, and regular use of anti-inflammatory painkillers may require medical supervision. Kidney function, potassium levels, and blood pressure may need monitoring.
