What is it used for?
This combination is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure helps reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and other blood-vessel complications.

How does it work?
Telmisartan relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking the action of a hormone that raises blood pressure. Chlorthalidone helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water, which also lowers blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with or without food. Take it regularly at the same time each day and do not stop it without medical advice. Drink fluids as advised and follow any blood pressure and blood-test monitoring recommended by the doctor.

Common side effects
Dizziness, light-headedness, increased urination, weakness, headache, dehydration and changes in blood salts such as potassium or sodium. It may also increase uric acid or blood sugar levels.

Precautions
Not recommended during pregnancy; contact a doctor immediately if pregnancy occurs. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, gout, diabetes, dehydration or low blood pressure. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function and blood salts may be needed. Avoid potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes unless advised. Seek medical help for severe dizziness, fainting, swelling of the face or difficulty breathing.
