What is it used for?
This medicine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Controlling blood pressure helps reduce the risk of complications such as stroke and heart problems.

How does it work?
Telmisartan blocks the action of a substance that narrows blood vessels, helping them relax. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that helps the body remove extra salt and water through urine, lowering blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day. It may be taken with or without food. Do not stop it or change the dose without medical advice. Because it may increase urination, follow the timing instructions provided by the prescriber.

Common side effects
Dizziness, light-headedness, increased urination, headache, nausea, tiredness, and changes in blood potassium or other salts. Contact a doctor if side effects are severe or persistent.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, dehydration, gout, diabetes, or previous electrolyte problems. This medicine should not be used during pregnancy, especially after the first trimester, unless specifically advised by a doctor. Avoid potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium unless advised. Tell the doctor about all medicines being taken, especially lithium, other blood-pressure medicines, diuretics, and regular painkillers such as ibuprofen. Rise slowly if dizzy and maintain adequate fluids unless fluid restriction has been advised.
