What is it used for?
Telmisartan 20 mg is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It may also be prescribed to help reduce the risk of certain cardiovascular problems in some high-risk adults.

How does it work?
It blocks the action of angiotensin II, a substance that narrows blood vessels. This helps the blood vessels relax and lowers blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet with water; it can generally be taken with or without food. Do not stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, diarrhoea, back pain and muscle pain may occur.

Precautions
Do not use during pregnancy, especially after the first three months; inform the doctor if pregnant or planning pregnancy. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, dehydration, or use of potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium. Blood pressure, kidney function and potassium levels may need monitoring. Seek urgent medical help for swelling of the face, lips or throat or difficulty breathing.
