What is it used for?
Telmisartan 20 mg is mainly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It may also be prescribed for reducing the risk of certain heart and blood-vessel problems in selected adults.

How does it work?
It blocks the action of angiotensin II, a substance that narrows blood vessels and raises blood pressure. This helps blood vessels relax and lowers blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not stop taking it without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, diarrhoea, back pain, and low blood pressure may occur. Seek medical help for swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, or severe dizziness.

Precautions
Do not use during pregnancy, especially after the first trimester, unless specifically advised by a doctor. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, dehydration, or high potassium levels. Avoid potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes unless advised. Regular blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium monitoring may be needed. Discuss its use with a doctor if taking other blood-pressure medicines, lithium, or regular painkillers such as ibuprofen.
