What is it used for?
Telmisartan 40 mg + hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is usually prescribed when one medicine alone does not control blood pressure adequately.

How does it work?
Telmisartan relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking the action of a hormone that raises blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water, which also lowers blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not stop treatment or change the dose without medical advice. Take care to maintain adequate fluids unless a doctor has advised fluid restriction.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, tiredness, increased urination, nausea, and changes in blood potassium or sodium levels may occur.

Precautions
Blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels may need monitoring. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, dehydration, diabetes, gout, or low sodium or potassium levels. Avoid potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes unless advised. Do not use during pregnancy; seek medical advice immediately if pregnancy occurs.
