What is it used for?
Thyroxine 75 mcg is used to replace the thyroid hormone that the body lacks, mainly in people with an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). It may also be prescribed for certain other thyroid conditions under medical supervision.

How does it work?
It supplies a synthetic form of thyroxine, a hormone normally produced by the thyroid gland. This helps restore normal body functions affected by low thyroid hormone levels.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually once daily on an empty stomach, consistently at the same time. It is commonly taken 30–60 minutes before breakfast with water. Keep calcium, iron, and antacid medicines separate from thyroxine by the interval advised by the doctor or pharmacist. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Regular blood tests may be needed.

Common side effects
When the dose is higher than needed, possible effects include palpitations, tremor, nervousness, difficulty sleeping, increased sweating, headache, diarrhoea, and weight loss.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is heart disease, diabetes, or a history of thyroid problems. Seek medical advice for chest pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, or severe breathlessness. The dose often needs monitoring during pregnancy. Thyroxine should not be used for weight loss unless specifically prescribed for a thyroid condition.
