Tobracalm Eye Drop (Tobramycin 0.3% w/v)

Composition

Each mL of sterile solution contains:

Tobramycin IP — 0.3% w/v (3 mg/mL)

Benzalkonium Chloride — 0.01% w/v (as preservative)

Excipients: Sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, boric acid, water for injection — q.s.

Aminoglycoside Antibiotic (Ophthalmic Antibacterial Agent)

Dosage & Administration

Route: Ophthalmic (topical use only)

Continue therapy for at least 48 hours after symptoms resolve.

Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface or eye to avoid contamination.

Shake gently before use if suspension form.

Warnings & Precautions

Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms (including fungi).

Cross-sensitivity with other aminoglycosides possible; use cautiously if patient has prior allergy to gentamicin or neomycin.

Avoid contamination: Keep bottle tightly closed and avoid touching the dropper tip.

Contact lenses: Remove lenses prior to instillation; reinsert after at least 15 minutes.

Superinfection: If new infections develop, discontinue and initiate appropriate therapy.

 Adverse Effects

Local: Transient ocular irritation, itching, redness, tearing, eyelid swelling.

Allergic reactions: Eyelid pruritus, conjunctival erythema, rash (rare).

Prolonged use: Potential for fungal or resistant bacterial overgrowth.

Systemic absorption: Minimal; systemic side effects (ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity) are extremely rare.

Overdosage

Symptoms: Excessive local irritation, tearing, redness, and swelling.
Management: Rinse the eye with sterile saline or water; discontinue use temporarily. No systemic toxicity expected from topical use.

 Storage

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light.
Do not freeze.
Keep out of reach of children.
Discard the bottle 4 weeks after opening.
