Tonikem Red + Syrup (Ferric Ammonium Citrate 160 mg + Folic Acid 0.5 mg + Vitamin B12 7.5 mcg)

Composition

Each 15 mL of syrup contains:

Ferric Ammonium Citrate — 160 mg ,Folic Acid — 0.5 mg, Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) — 7.5 mcg
Excipients: Flavoured syrup base q.s.

Therapeutic Category

Haematinic / Iron, Folic Acid & Vitamin Supplement.

Dosage & Administration

Route: Oral

Shake well before use.

Administer after meals to reduce gastric irritation.

 Warnings & Precautions

Iron overload: Monitor serum ferritin and transferrin saturation in long-term therapy.

GI irritation: May cause mild constipation or nausea; take after meals.

Folic acid masking: Folic acid may mask B12 deficiency — ensure adequate B12 supplementation.

Use with caution in patients with peptic ulcer, inflammatory bowel disease, or liver disorders.

Do not exceed recommended dosage.

 Adverse Effects

Common: Nausea, constipation, dark stool, mild abdominal discomfort.

Less common: Vomiting, diarrhoea, metallic taste, allergic rash.

Rare: Anaphylactic reaction (with hypersensitivity).

 Use in Special Populations

Pregnancy: Safe and indicated; helps prevent maternal anaemia and neural tube defects.

Lactation: Safe; supports postnatal recovery and milk iron content.

Children: Use under medical supervision.

Elderly: Generally safe; monitor gastrointestinal tolerance.

 Overdosage

Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain; in severe cases, metabolic acidosis and shock (iron toxicity).
Treatment: Gastric lavage, supportive therapy, and chelation with deferoxamine if required.

 Storage

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight.
Keep tightly closed and out of reach of children.
Do not refrigerate.
