What is it used for?
Torsemide is a diuretic used to remove excess fluid from the body, such as swelling related to heart failure or certain kidney or liver conditions. It may also be prescribed to help control high blood pressure.

How does it work?
It helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water from the body through urine. This reduces fluid buildup and may lower blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Because it increases urination, it is generally best taken at a time that will not disturb sleep. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Increased urination, dizziness, headache, weakness, stomach upset, dehydration, low blood pressure, and changes in body salts such as sodium or potassium.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and blood salts may be needed. Tell the doctor about severe vomiting or diarrhoea, dehydration, gout, diabetes, liver or kidney disease, or hearing problems. Seek medical help for fainting, severe weakness, confusion, irregular heartbeat, or very little urine. Inform the doctor about all medicines, especially lithium, digoxin, blood-pressure medicines, and anti-inflammatory painkillers.
