What is it used for?
Torsemide is a diuretic used to reduce swelling caused by fluid buildup, often related to heart failure or kidney or liver problems. It may also be prescribed to help control high blood pressure.

How does it work?
It helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water from the body through urine. This reduces fluid buildup and may lower blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it by mouth exactly as prescribed. It increases urination, so follow the prescribed timing and do not change the dose without medical advice. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function and blood electrolyte levels may be needed.

Common side effects
Increased urination, dizziness, headache, low blood pressure, dehydration, nausea and changes in blood electrolyte levels such as low potassium or sodium.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, dehydration, low blood pressure, gout or diabetes. Seek medical advice for severe dizziness, fainting, extreme thirst, muscle cramps, confusion or very little urine. Some medicines, including lithium, certain painkillers such as NSAIDs and other blood-pressure medicines, may interact with torsemide.
