What is it used for?
Tranexamic acid injection is used to help control or reduce excessive bleeding, including bleeding associated with surgery, injury, childbirth or heavy menstrual periods. It is given when prescribed and supervised by a healthcare professional.

How does it work?
It helps prevent blood clots from breaking down too quickly, allowing bleeding to slow or stop.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by injection, usually into a vein, by a healthcare professional. The dose and treatment duration depend on the cause and severity of bleeding, kidney function and medical advice. It should not be self-administered.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness and headache may occur. A temporary drop in blood pressure can occur if the injection is given too quickly.

Precautions
Tell the healthcare professional about any history of blood clots, kidney disease, seizures, blood in the urine or problems with colour vision. Seek urgent medical help for chest pain, sudden breathlessness, one-sided leg swelling or pain, sudden vision changes, severe headache, seizures or signs of a serious allergic reaction.
