What is it used for?
Cefixime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections. It does not work against viral infections such as common colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming a protective cell wall, which stops the infection from spreading.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the recommended times, and complete the full course even if symptoms improve. It may be taken with or without food. Do not share it or use leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain, indigestion and vomiting may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is an allergy to cefixime, cephalosporins or penicillin-type antibiotics, or if there is kidney disease. Seek medical help for a severe allergic reaction or severe, persistent or bloody diarrhoea. Use only when prescribed, as unnecessary antibiotic use can lead to resistance.
