What is it used for?
Cefixime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, ears, airways, urinary tract and other areas. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by blocking the formation of their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed by a doctor. Follow the prescribed dose and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. It may be taken with or without food. Do not share leftover antibiotics with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain, indigestion and vomiting. Skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to cefixime, cephalosporins or penicillin-type antibiotics. Medical advice is important for people with kidney disease. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice.
