What is it used for?
Ursodeoxycholic acid is used to help dissolve certain cholesterol-based gallstones and to treat some long-term liver and bile-flow problems, including primary biliary cholangitis. It is used only when prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It changes the composition of bile, helping reduce cholesterol buildup and improve bile flow. It may also help protect liver cells from the harmful effects of bile acids.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and swallow the tablet with water. The dose and treatment duration depend on the condition being treated. Do not stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea or loose stools, abdominal discomfort, nausea and itching may occur.

Precautions
Inform the doctor about gallbladder or bile-duct blockage, severe liver disease, or frequent diarrhoea. Medical monitoring may be needed during treatment. Antacids containing aluminium and some cholesterol-binding medicines can reduce its absorption; tell the doctor or pharmacist about all medicines being taken. Consult a doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding.
