What is it used for?
Ursodeoxycholic acid is used to treat certain liver and bile-flow disorders, including primary biliary cholangitis. It may also be prescribed to dissolve certain cholesterol gallstones when appropriate.

How does it work?
It improves the flow and composition of bile, helping reduce the buildup of harmful bile acids and cholesterol in the liver and gallbladder.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with food or as directed by the doctor. Swallow with water and do not stop treatment or change the dose without medical advice. Regular liver tests may be needed.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort or pain, nausea, and indigestion may occur.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision if there is blockage of the bile ducts, acute gallbladder inflammation, or severe liver disease. Tell the doctor about other medicines being taken, especially antacids or cholesterol-binding medicines. Seek medical advice if severe abdominal pain, persistent diarrhoea, or yellowing of the skin or eyes occurs.
