What is it used for?
Ursodeoxycholic acid is used to treat certain cholestatic liver diseases, including primary biliary cholangitis, and may be prescribed to help dissolve some cholesterol gallstones.

How does it work?
It improves the flow and composition of bile and reduces the amount of cholesterol in bile. This can help protect liver cells and gradually dissolve suitable cholesterol gallstones.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Swallow the sustained-release medicine whole; do not crush or chew it. The dose and treatment duration depend on the condition being treated and require medical supervision.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, loose stools, abdominal discomfort, nausea, or indigestion. Itching may occur in some people.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision. Regular liver-function tests may be needed. Tell the doctor about gallbladder or bile-duct blockage, acute gallbladder inflammation, liver disease, pregnancy, or other medicines being taken. It does not dissolve all types of gallstones.
