What is it used for?
Sacubitril 49 mg and valsartan 51 mg is used to treat certain types of long-term heart failure, particularly heart failure with reduced pumping strength. It helps reduce the risk of worsening heart failure and hospitalisation when prescribed as part of an appropriate treatment plan.

How does it work?
Sacubitril helps increase substances that relax blood vessels and reduce fluid buildup. Valsartan blocks the effects of angiotensin II, helping blood vessels relax and reducing strain on the heart.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor, at the same times each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water and do not stop it without medical advice. Regular checks of blood pressure, kidney function and blood potassium may be needed.

Common side effects
Low blood pressure, dizziness, increased blood potassium, changes in kidney function and cough may occur.

Precautions
Do not use during pregnancy; contact a doctor immediately if pregnancy occurs. Seek urgent medical help for swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing, as these may indicate angioedema. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, low blood pressure, high potassium, or previous angioedema. Do not take it with an ACE inhibitor; a suitable gap is required when switching between these medicines. Check with a doctor before using potassium supplements, potassium-containing salt substitutes or medicines that may affect kidney function.
