Vancomycin 500 mg per vial

Description:

VANCOTECH-500 contains Vancomycin, a glycopeptide antibiotic used for the treatment of serious Gram-positive bacterial infections, especially those caused by MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus), enterococci and streptococci. It is indicated for septicemia, bone and joint infections, endocarditis, lower respiratory tract infections and severe skin infections. Vancomycin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the death of sensitive bacteria.

Precautions:

VANCOTECH-500 should be administered only under medical supervision. Caution is required in patients with renal impairment, as dosage adjustment is necessary and kidney function should be monitored regularly. Hearing should be assessed in elderly patients or those with pre-existing hearing loss since Vancomycin may rarely cause ototoxicity, especially at high levels. Rapid IV infusion can cause “Red Man Syndrome,” so infusion should be given slowly. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be based on a physician’s judgment. Inform the doctor of all medications, particularly other nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs.

Adverse Effects:

Possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, rash, fever, chills and local pain or inflammation at the injection site. Rare but serious effects include nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, low blood pressure, Red Man Syndrome, and blood abnormalities such as neutropenia. Severe allergic reactions may also occur in sensitive individuals.

Storage:

Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Reconstitute the vial with the recommended diluent before use. Use the prepared solution within the recommended timeframe and discard any unused portion. Keep out of reach of children and do not use after the expiry date.
