What is it used for?
Vildagliptin 50 mg + metformin 1000 mg is used with diet and exercise to control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
Vildagliptin helps the body release insulin when blood sugar is high and reduces the release of glucagon. Metformin reduces sugar production by the liver and helps the body use insulin better.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, usually with or after food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet with water and do not crush or chew it unless advised. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, headache and dizziness may occur. Low blood sugar is more likely when used with insulin or other diabetes medicines.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, heart failure, heavy alcohol use, or a history of pancreatitis. Seek medical help for severe or persistent stomach pain, repeated vomiting, unusual weakness, breathing difficulty or extreme drowsiness. Kidney function may need monitoring, and long-term metformin use can reduce vitamin B12 levels. Inform the doctor before surgery, serious illness, dehydration or an X-ray scan using injected contrast dye.
