What is it used for?
Vildagliptin + metformin is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
Vildagliptin helps the body release more insulin when blood sugar is high and reduces excess sugar release after meals. Metformin reduces sugar production by the liver and helps the body use insulin more effectively.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with or after food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole and do not stop treatment without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the prescriber's instructions rather than taking extra medicine.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, vomiting, headache, dizziness, or a metallic taste may occur. Low blood sugar is more likely when used with insulin or certain other diabetes medicines.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, heart failure, heavy alcohol use, or a history of pancreatitis before starting treatment. Kidney and liver function may need monitoring. Seek medical help for severe or persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, unusual weakness, breathing difficulty, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. Avoid excessive alcohol. Metformin may reduce vitamin B12 levels during long-term use. This medicine is not suitable for some people with severe kidney impairment or serious liver disease.
