What is it used for?
Used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when one medicine alone is not enough.

How does it work?
Vildagliptin helps the body release insulin when blood sugar is high and reduces the release of glucagon. Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and helps the body use insulin better.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, usually with or after food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. If a dose is missed, do not take an extra dose unless advised.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, loss of appetite, headache or dizziness. Low blood sugar may occur, especially when used with other diabetes medicines.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, heart failure, heavy alcohol use, or a history of pancreatitis. Kidney function and, when appropriate, liver function may need monitoring. Seek medical help for severe or persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, unusual weakness, breathing difficulty, or symptoms of low blood sugar. Tell the doctor before pregnancy, breastfeeding, surgery, or certain X-ray scans using contrast dye.
