What is it used for?
Vildagliptin is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It may be used alone or together with other diabetes medicines.

How does it work?
It blocks an enzyme called DPP-4, helping the body release insulin after meals and reduce the release of excess glucose from the liver. This helps lower blood sugar levels.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. It may be taken with or without food. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. If used with other diabetes medicines, follow the prescribed schedule carefully.

Common side effects
Nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation and shaking or tremor may occur. Low blood sugar is more likely when it is taken with insulin or sulfonylurea medicines.

Precautions
It is intended for type 2 diabetes and should not be used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Inform the doctor about kidney or liver problems; dose adjustment or monitoring may be needed. Seek medical help for severe, persistent abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, swelling of the face or throat, or a serious skin reaction. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice.
