What is it used for?
Povidone iodine 5% is an antiseptic used to reduce germs on the skin and help prevent infection in minor cuts, wounds and burns, when intended for topical use.

How does it work?
It slowly releases iodine, which kills or inactivates many types of germs, including bacteria, viruses and fungi.

How to take/use it
Use only as directed on the product label or by a healthcare professional. For topical products, apply to clean, affected skin as directed and do not swallow. Do not use in the eyes unless the product is specifically meant for ophthalmic use.

Common side effects
Temporary stinging, redness, dryness or skin irritation. Rarely, an allergic reaction may occur.

Precautions
For external use only unless specifically prescribed otherwise. Avoid use if allergic to povidone iodine or other iodine-containing antiseptics. Seek medical advice before use on large or deep wounds, extensive burns, or for prolonged periods, especially in people with thyroid disease, infants, or during pregnancy.
