What is it used for?
Voglibose is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes, particularly the rise in blood sugar after meals.

How does it work?
It slows the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates from food in the intestine. This helps reduce the increase in blood sugar after meals.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually immediately before or with the first mouthful of a meal. Take it with food and do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Gas, bloating, abdominal discomfort and diarrhoea. These effects may be more noticeable when treatment is started.

Precautions
Use only under medical advice, especially if there is kidney or liver disease, intestinal blockage or a significant digestive disorder. Low blood sugar may occur when used with insulin or other diabetes medicines. If this happens, use glucose (dextrose) rather than table sugar, and seek medical advice if symptoms are severe or persistent.
