What is it used for?
Diclofenac sodium is used to relieve pain, swelling and inflammation in conditions such as arthritis, muscle or joint injuries, and other painful conditions. Use it only for the condition and duration prescribed.

How does it work?
It reduces the production of substances called prostaglandins that cause pain, swelling and inflammation.

How to take/use it
Use the prescribed form and strength exactly as directed by a doctor. If it is an oral medicine, take it with or after food and water to reduce stomach irritation. Do not take more than prescribed or combine it with other diclofenac or NSAID medicines unless advised.

Common side effects
Indigestion, stomach pain, nausea, diarrhoea, headache and dizziness may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is a history of stomach ulcer or bleeding, heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney or liver problems, asthma triggered by painkillers, or an allergy to NSAIDs. Seek urgent medical help for black stools, vomiting blood, severe stomach pain, chest pain, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a serious skin rash. Avoid use during the last three months of pregnancy and ask a doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tell the doctor about all medicines being taken, especially blood thinners, steroids, other NSAIDs, diuretics and medicines for blood pressure or kidney problems.
