What is it used for?
Diclofenac sodium is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine used to relieve pain, swelling and inflammation, especially in muscle, joint and arthritis-related conditions.

How does it work?
It reduces the production of substances in the body that cause pain, swelling and inflammation.

How to take/use it
Use it only as prescribed and follow the directions for the prescribed form and route. Do not use more than recommended. If it is an oral medicine, taking it with or after food may help reduce stomach irritation.

Common side effects
Indigestion, stomach pain, nausea, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness and heartburn.

Precautions
Avoid use if there is a history of stomach ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding, severe kidney or liver disease, serious heart disease, or allergy to diclofenac or other NSAIDs, unless specifically advised by a doctor. Seek medical help for black stools, vomiting blood, severe stomach pain, breathing difficulty, swelling or chest pain. Do not combine with other NSAID painkillers unless advised. Tell the doctor about pregnancy, especially from 20 weeks onwards, or breastfeeding, and about any medicines being taken.
