What is it used for?
Ceftriaxone with sulbactam is a prescription antibiotic injection used to treat a range of bacterial infections. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Ceftriaxone kills bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall. Sulbactam helps ceftriaxone work against certain bacteria that can resist some antibiotics.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, so it should be used only as prescribed. Complete the prescribed course unless advised otherwise by a healthcare professional.

Common side effects
Pain, redness or swelling at the injection site; diarrhoea; nausea; vomiting; rash; or changes in liver test results.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any previous allergy to ceftriaxone, other cephalosporin antibiotics, penicillins or other medicines. Inform the doctor if there is kidney or liver disease, a history of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea, or pregnancy or breastfeeding. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, severe rash, or persistent or bloody diarrhoea.
