What is it used for?
Ceftazidime with tazobactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It is not effective against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Ceftazidime kills bacteria by preventing them from forming a protective cell wall. Tazobactam helps protect ceftazidime from certain bacterial enzymes that can make antibiotics less effective.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by injection or infusion by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, kidney function, and response to treatment. Complete the prescribed course unless the healthcare professional advises otherwise.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, rash, injection-site reactions, and changes in liver blood tests may occur.

Precautions
Tell the healthcare professional about any allergy to ceftazidime, other cephalosporins, penicillins, or related antibiotics. Kidney disease may require dose adjustment. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe skin rash, seizures, or severe or persistent diarrhoea, including diarrhoea with blood. Use only when prescribed, as unnecessary antibiotic use can promote resistance.
