What is it used for?
Albendazole is an anti-parasitic medicine used to treat infections caused by intestinal worms, such as roundworms, hookworms, pinworms, whipworms and some tapeworms.

How does it work?
It damages the worms and prevents them from using nutrients needed for their survival, causing them to die.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type of worm infection. Do not repeat treatment or use it for suspected worms without medical advice.

Common side effects
Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, headache and dizziness may occur. Mild diarrhoea can also occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is liver disease, a blood disorder, or an allergy to albendazole. Avoid use during pregnancy unless specifically prescribed; people who could become pregnant may need contraception during treatment. Longer treatments may require liver function and blood-count monitoring. Seek medical advice for yellowing of the skin or eyes, unusual bruising, severe weakness or persistent abdominal pain.
